WordPress Website Design You Own, Not Rent

Every site we build runs on WordPress: real software you hold the keys to, not a monthly subscription to a platform that can raise its price or shut you out. The login, the files, and the domain are in your name, and none of it disappears the day you stop paying someone else’s company.

WordPress builds meet the same standard as every other project here: unlimited revisions and 30 days of free support after launch.

Own vs. rent

Why Every Site We Build Runs On WordPress

Owning a website and renting access to one are different arrangements, and most business owners only learn which one they have when they try to leave.

WordPress works differently

Platforms like Wix and Squarespace

Wix and Squarespace build your site inside their own closed system. You’re not buying software; you’re paying monthly for access to theirs, and the moment you cancel, the website goes with it. There’s no file to download, no install to hand a new developer, nothing to move. What you built over the years belongs to the platform, not to you.

WordPress

WordPress isn’t a platform in that sense. It’s open-source software running on hosting you own, under a domain registered in your name from day one, never folded into an account only we can access. No single company has to stay in business, or keep you as a customer, for your site to keep working.

If we ever stopped being the right fit for your business, you’d take the whole site with you: the files, the content, the domain, all of it. That isn’t a sales-pitch hypothetical. It’s how the software works.

The point isn’t planning for a bad outcome. With some platforms, the business relationship and the software are one and the same, so losing one means losing the other. With WordPress, the two stay separate.

Every page we build is yours from launch day, the login and the files included.

The build

Clean WordPress, Without Page-Builder Clutter

WordPress itself is lightweight. Most slow, cluttered WordPress sites got that way from what was piled on top of the software, not from the software itself.

Plenty of WordPress sites are built inside a drag-and-drop page-builder plugin, a tool that lets anyone stack elements on a page without touching code.

Drag-and-drop page-builder plugin

A reasonable shortcut for a hobby site. For a business site, it usually means extra scripts loading on every page, layouts that break when one plugin updates and another doesn’t, and a back end so cluttered that a simple text change takes ten minutes to find.

Invisible until someone goes looking for it

  • A slider nobody clicks
  • An animation effect loaded on every page for the one spot that uses it
  • Two or three SEO plugins doing overlapping jobs, each added at a different time without anyone checking what was already installed

The editor you’ll use later is WordPress’s own block editor, built into the core software rather than bolted on by a separate plugin. That’s one less thing that can break, and one less feature tied to a subscription that might not exist in five years.

Keeping that stack light is what separates a WordPress site that happens to load slowly from one built to hit real speed numbers. The full technical side of that work, covering images, scripts, fonts, and hosting, has its own page: Website Speed Optimization.

What’s specific to WordPress is keeping the platform itself lightweight from the start. That’s why the training behind this work is WordPress-specific too: HubSpot Academy coursework built around this exact platform, not a general design credential applied after the fact.

All of it, a five-minute job

  • A new testimonial comes in that’s worth adding to the homepage
  • A seasonal service needs a quick mention on the page that already ranks for it

Holiday Hours Changed? Log In And Fix It

Ownership only matters if you can use it. Once your site is live and the 30 days of free support have run their course, day-to-day ownership looks like this.

Need to swap a photo because you hired someone new or refreshed your storefront? Log in, replace the image, done. Hours changing for a holiday weekend? Same thing.

Every one of those happens inside a dashboard built for someone who has never touched a website before.

We walk through the back end with you before the support window closes, so none of this is a mystery on day 31. Bigger changes, such as a new page or a redesigned section, are still worth a call. Small ones shouldn’t need one, and if something looks off after you make a change, undoing it is as easy as making it.

The pricing

WordPress Adds Nothing To Your Quote

WordPress is the foundation every site is built on, not a separate product with its own price tag.

Whichever option fits your business (one flat fee that includes Google Business Profile optimization, or nothing upfront, followed by pay-per-lead local SEO), you get the same clean, hand-coded WordPress build described above, with unlimited revisions until you’re happy and 30 days of free support after launch.

  • Website + Google ProfilePaid once · WordPress included, no ongoing SEOFlat Fee

Choosing WordPress changes nothing about the timeline or the price you’re quoted. No hidden WordPress licence fee turns up on a later invoice, and no plugin subscription gets added after the fact. A Five-Minute Call Before You Pick A Platform

A website you own outright is worth a five-minute conversation before you build one anywhere else. Book a free consultation, or call (403) 307-0151 to talk through a WordPress build for your business.

WordPress Questions From Business Owners

No. Updates happen in WordPress’s built-in editor, the same one used to build the page: click into a section, change the text or photo, save. None of it touches code, and the walkthrough in your 30 days of support covers the changes you’re most likely to make yourself.

The biggest difference shows up if you ever want to leave. A Wix or Squarespace site lives inside that company’s system, and cancelling the subscription takes the website down with it. A WordPress site runs on hosting and a domain registered in your name, so the site itself is portable: yours to keep, move, or hand to a different developer, whatever happens with us down the road.

In most cases, yes. Moving an existing site onto WordPress is part of our website redesign work, because it involves more than swapping platforms: your content, structure, and existing search rankings all need to carry over intact. If that’s your situation, start there.

Run correctly, yes. Every site is set up with current, supported themes and plugins, kept updated rather than left to drift, and built without the extra third-party add-ons that are the most common way WordPress sites get compromised. Security on any website comes down mostly to maintenance rather than the platform, and that maintenance is part of the build from day one.

No. Those tools have a place in some projects, but they add a layer of plugin code between you and the site, and that layer is where many slowdowns and update conflicts start. We hand-code pages and you edit them in WordPress’s own block editor, which keeps the back end lighter and means you’re never tied to a plugin’s subscription just to keep your own site working.

It helps, as long as it’s built clean. The platform doesn’t rank a site; content, speed, and technical structure do. A lightweight WordPress build makes all three easier to get right than a heavier platform does, and the page speed, schema markup, and mobile optimization included with every project fit naturally into a clean build rather than being bolted on afterward.

Yes, and that’s one of the platform’s biggest advantages. A WordPress site can grow into things it didn’t start with, from a booking calendar to a full online store, without a rebuild from zero. Some additions are small changes and some are their own plainly quoted project, depending on scope, but the foundation supports either path. Raise it on your consultation call if that’s where your business is headed.
